With a job like ours, sports is … important. Bla bla … it is healthy … bla bla. Even I cannot hear it anymore. Do not do it because of anybody talking that bla bla. Find your own relation to it. Myself I feel better when I do some sports occasionally. For a time in my life, I have done too much sports and it did me no good in the end. So find a moderate mix and a level you enjoy. That’s it. That’s all.
Classics
Some of you will have “their sports”, if this is you … just do it! The others might consider a sport that comes with little equipment:
Jogging
This is likely the biggest community. The gear fits into a small bag and this activity is possible … everywhere.
Swimming
Very little equipment required: stuff a hotel-towel and your swimming-gear (pants, glasses, show-gel) into a spare notebook-bag and hit the water. Your hotel does not offer a pool? Stop crying, walk or run to the next public one.
Ever thought about doing a rescue-swimmer-course (like in Germany a DLRG certificate)?
Sauna
If your hotel does not offer one, check out the area or ask. Usually the personal in a hotel can hint where the next one is. I have yet to find a sauna where
Fitness Center
Your hotel has a fitness-room? What do you think this is made for? Use it! In case it does not, I would make sense to check out the fitness-centers in the near neighbourhood. Some might offer short-term-contracts or day-tickets.
Bicycle
If you travel by car, you can take a bike with you. Otherwise, checkout the local offers on ebay or alike to just buy a used one. Trust me it is worth it. A street bike for training should be available under 200€ and after all for training you do not need aluminium- or carbon-frames or fancy equipment. Size must fit and it must roll.
If you are in a foreign country: check out for road-situation and applicable laws. You do not want to get into trouble for e.g. not having lights or a bell in Germany. That would be ridiculous.
Local routes for bicycle-training can always be found via Google.
Further away from normal
Motorbike
How about renting a motorbike and do some tours, provided you got a valid license for bikes?
Scuba-Diving
I am a diver. I do not dive a lot (vacation-water-junky), but I love it. If you have not tried yet, find a local club and learn it. You would rent the equipment, anyway, so why not do it away from home?
Costs are … acceptable. Keep in mind that this is something that you can also do in your vacation, once you are licensed: Red Sea, Maledives, whatever … you will love it.
Have it your way …
Just do not stop thinking here … have it your way. Develop your own plan!
